“Today’s Spiritual Gift – Healing”
Each of us are gifted with specific abilities and talents, and as you can imagine, when all of these gifts and talents come together (members of the Body of Christ working together), that is when we function the best.
This study is designed to introduce you to some of the Spiritual gifts listed in the Bible, and hopefully, as you learn a little more about them, you’ll be able to identify your own strengths.
When we know our gifts, and begin using them well, THAT is when our faith truly opens up, and we begin to see a major difference in our hearts and lives, AND in the lives of those around us!
“But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.”
What’s the point?
Today’s Spiritual Gift: Healing
My personal belief is that none of us possess any supernatural powers to heal anymore. I believe that God works in and through us to heal, can guide the hands of doctors, lead scientists to discoveries that cure disease …. (Again, this is just my personal conviction).
Today, though, I want to look at healing, but not physical cures.
I think we must first look to the healing we all received through the cross.
I love this verse from Isaiah, because it reminds me that the healing I’ve received, the peace I’m freely given, came at a major cost.
The healing poured over our heads/lives/souls was birthed from love. (A love that is truly not of this world!)
As such, this same love now dwells in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. We may not be physicians with the physical abilities to heal disease, but we do have the power to heal hearts.
Just as Jesus can work through a surgeon healing someone, and bringing them back to full life …. we too, have the power to allow Jesus to work through us and heal others.
Jesus can hug a person in mourning, as you reach out and hug them.
Jesus can offer the exact words someone needs to hear, as you take the time to allow Jesus to speak through you, over coffee.
Jesus can guide children in the right direction, as you allow Him to influence your teaching.
The possibilities of healing are endless, when we open our hearts, allowing Jesus to use us as His instruments.
What does all of this mean to me/how can I apply that to my life today?
To help you identify what your spiritual gifts are, there are several tools and tests you can take for free online.
Or to help you begin thinking about it, I encourage you to spend the course of this study reflecting on the following questions:
- What do you enjoy doing?
- When you hear about people helping others, do you feel drawn to specific stories? (i.e. children, those living in poverty, racial equality etc.)
- Ask someone who knows you well, what gifts they see in you? What do they think you are best at?
